For the people who are new to anime, Senpai has created a list of Perfect anime that’ll help you watch the best of all the anime. Recently the news came that, Weathering with You (Romaji: Tenki No Ko), Makato Shinkai’s latest film will have a theatrical release in India. I was happy but also concerned. Because I wasn’t sure a lot of people would actually go and watch such a niche anime. Anime in India limits itself to Dragon Ball and Naruto. To clarify, most people haven’t even watched Dragon Ball and have just watched from Z!
This was partly the reason why Dragon Ball Super: Broly was such a hit. Now the main motive of the article is to essentially educate people in India and the world over that anime is much more than just shirtless men fighting (no offense Salemon Bhai). So to guide anyone who wants to get into anime culture but has no idea where to start, this is the holy grail for you. Now anime has 5 genres, rather, demographics:
Shounen: Made for teenage boys. Seinen: Made for adult men. Shojo: Made for teenage girls. Josei: Made for adult women. Kodomomuke: Made for small children to instill moral values. A popular example would be Doraemon.
This knowledge will help you to find the anime demographic you’re most interested in!
Often considered the greatest shounen of all time, Dragon Ball is the most popular anime. Dragon Ball is perfect to get into anime. Dragon Balls are 7 magical wish-granting orbs. Each has stars numbered from 1 to 7. Dragon Ball was followed by Dragon Ball Z. It became a major hit and thus, the cultural phenomenon it is today. Dragon Ball also had 20 animated movies and OVAs. Although only three, namely: Dragon Ball Z: Wrath of the Gods, Dragon Ball Z: Resurrection F and the recently released Dragon Ball Super: Broly is part of the headcanon.
